World's most expensive wine

Ok, I lie.  Just the most expensive I (almost) ever bought.

It was getting on to evening and I was thinking spaghetti.  Needed wine.  Looked out, clear skies.  Hopped in the dinghy and motored across the creek to MaxValue, our 'pink' grocery store.  Real handy, just off the wharf.

Got in, did a little scoping re sales.  Then headed back to the liquor corner.  Cheapest Fiji Bitter in Savusavu, BTW.  "I need some of that cheap Australian shiraz.  She comes back with something I hadn't heard of, I said 'Ok'.  Go up front to pay.  The checkout clerk was looking at the till with something akin to horror, so I looked.  $417 dollars.  For two bottles of shiraz, one can of Wattie's beans and a small bag of whole oats.  I looked at her, she looked at me.  "Did you buy really expensive wine?" she asked.  I said, "No. I asked for the cheap Aussie shiraz and the girl back there said twelve dollars."  (Six USD).  She sent one of the stock boys back to check.

So he comes back carrying the shelf sticker:  $205.  I started shaking my head.  The checkout clerk asked the next checkout to scan the bottle:  $205 FJD.  She said there had to be a mistake and started to laugh.  So now we have the checkout line all bottled up (see what I did there?).  The stock boy goes back again and confirms the price.  Checkout clerk says "We don't have that kind of wine here."

So the stock boy takes me back and lets me into the hallowed liquor corner where no interloper should be.  "Please pick your wine."  Well they had nothing in the way of cheap shiraz.  They had some 'red' that looked intimidating and a bunch of more expensive stuff.  He grabs a liter of Johnny Walker Red off the shelf and says "How about this?"  I laughed and declined.

So as I'm walking back up the aisle, I can see the checkout clerk looking and smiling.  I shook my head and we both started to laugh.  The people in line weren't laughing, for some reason.  I left with beans and oats.  And two tall Fiji Bitters.

Went next door to Sea Lovers which was advertising a sale of 'The Accomplice' shiraz for $12.95.  Picked up two bottles with no trouble and walked back to the dinghy still laughing.

Never did make the spag.  Started drinking the wine in the cockpit and somehow just never got motivated.  Fiji has a way of doing that to you.
